Welcome to Yellow Belt
Yellow Belt (8th Kyu) is the next step in your karate journey after White Belt (10th Kyu). At this stage, you’ll begin developing a stronger understanding of the fundamental techniques you have already learned while introducing new skills and combinations.
Yellow Belt training focuses on improving your technique, coordination, balance and confidence. You’ll continue developing your stances, punches, blocks and kicks while beginning to understand how karate techniques can be applied with a partner through kumite practice.
At GKR Karate, students of all ages can progress through the belt journey at their own pace. Regular training, consistent practice and a positive attitude will help you build the skills needed to progress towards your Orange Belt.
Developing Your Karate Skills
As a Yellow Belt, you’ll start to build on the foundations developed at White Belt.
- Improve your karate techniques and combinations
- Develop balance, coordination and movement
- Build confidence through partner training
- Begin developing an understanding of kumite
- Improve fitness, focus and discipline
- Develop an understanding of the relationship between Kihon and Kumite
Building Confidence Through Practice
Yellow Belt is an important stage in your karate journey because you are moving beyond the basics and beginning to connect individual techniques together.
Regular practice helps your movements become more natural and controlled. Your instructor will guide you through each technique and help you understand how good karate technique depends on correct posture, timing, focus and control.
Remember that progress in karate is not about comparing yourself with others. Focus on improving your own skills, one class at a time.
