The 2013 GKR World Cup was held at the Olympic Park Sports Centre in Homebush Bay, Sydney.

Over 1100 people from across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Houston, Texas came together to showcase the best that GKR has to offer. The level of sportsmanship, camaraderie and friendship was on display right from the start, with an impressive opening ceremony that had everyone on their feet!

Team Events were hotly contested with many teams taking to the floor on the Friday night. The pace was fast and so were the competitors.

Hall of Legends

Ages 5 – 11 were in the Junior arena and it hosted some of our biggest divisions. There was so much talent on display and they lived up to the name of the arena. Six rings were set up and each ring was exciting for all to watch. The wonderful attitude and skill shown by competitors was so pleasing to see. They all tried hard and some were slightly more victorious than others, but all kids should be proud with the respect they showed each other and the officials. Well done to the little legends!

Main Arena

15 rings were set up and they ran non-stop with exciting divisions from 10.30am until 6.00pm. Ages from 12 years and up competed with their heart and souls in their
respective divisions. The officials had their work cut out for them as the competition was of such high quality. All competitors gave it their all. I’m sure there will be so many great photos and stories from this day.

Sunday – Open Divisions

Many will agree that the quality of the competition on Sunday was incredible. The Instructor and Junior Open divisions were up first, followed by the much anticipated
Male and Female Open Kata and Kumite events. This year was particularly unique as a new flag scoring system was introduced in the open kata events. This was a spectacle as both competitors and spectators witnessed amazing battles take place.

Well done to all competed and all Instructors and coaches who helped the students perform at such a high level.
