27/11/2021

The GKR Karate South & West Regional Tournament was held on Saturday 27th of November at Surrey Sports Park, located in the heart of Guildford. This was the first tournament after a long break of almost 2 years due to Covid restrictions.

It was a busy day and we had competitors from London and surrounding areas. The day started with the usual Male & Female Blackbelt Open divisions. Kitty Lewis got gold after an amazing display of katas against Sophie Britton in the Female division. Tom Colwill got gold in Male division followed by Wayne Smy who got Silver and Leo Arnone got Bronze.

Sophie Britton secured gold after a spectacular performance against Jade Ling in the Female Kumite division. In the Male Kumite division, Stefan Dell showed some amazing skills and got gold, putting Tom Colwill for Silver medal and Leo Arnone for Bronze medal. Full results can be downloaded below.

There were some amazing performances from Karatekas throughout the day. Fellow students, parents and instructors were there to support and cheer for competitors. Even after such a long break, the standard of karate was still very high and the display of sportsmanship was spectacular.

There were more than 200 competitors in this tournament and they were put on 5 rings. To manage and run those rings is not an easy task, but they were done successfully by our incredible team of officials. I would like to thank each and every one of you that were involved in setting up and running of those rings. Special thanks to host Sensei Asmat Nadiry and Region 38 Guildford.

Best Regards
Leke Prenga
Senior Tournament Director
