Dear Ballarat students,
We have some important news regarding our new full-time dojo in Ballarat. Whilst we are naturally very excited about this new location and the ability it gives us to expand our weekly timetable; we have unfortunately encountered some difficulties with the neighbouring units in the complex after only a few days of conducting classes at the venue.
Traffic/Parking Concerns
These issues relate to what has been described as excessive vehicle congestion within the car park during our class times. Before speaking to us directly about this and giving us an opportunity to put suitable remedies in place, the estate’s ‘Owners Corporation’ made a complaint to Ballarat City Council.
As a result of this complaint, the council have directed us to immediately cease classes at the venue until we have completed our formal application process with them. It should be noted that this is unusual as council has the option of allowing a number of weeks for applications to be prepared and submitted without enforcing an immediate stoppage of operations.
Our Response
GKR has engaged a town planner and is currently working through the council application process that will allow us to conduct classes at that location over the long term. In the meantime, we have temporarily reinstated the weekly hire bookings at our previous venues while we await feedback from the council. As such, classes will continue to run each week at these venues until further notice.
