Hello to all Victorian Students and Families,

We hope you’ve all managed to stay well over these past few months, and that our free online classes have contributed in some way towards maintaining your good health during this unprecedented time. Finally we have some great news…

The exciting news is that Victoria has been given the go-ahead to re-open indoor recreational activities and our first classes will be starting back at selected dojos from this Monday 9th November . Please be assured that we will be adopting all the relevant Covid-Safe practises within our classes for the foreseeable future and list of these measures can be viewed HERE.

Our re-opening class timetables have been posted onto each region’s main Facebook page, and also posted at the link below.  As you will see, we have merged a large number of our existing dojos into our brand new full-time training centres. The classes at these new full-time venues will still be taught by your regular Sensei, and on the same nights as usual. Over time, we also intend to add extra classes to the weekly timetable to provide a greater choice of training nights for students.

For dojos that are not re-locating to a full-time centre, we expect to receive confirmation from school principals/venue managers very soon as to when they’ll permit us to re-start classes in their facility. Further updates will be posted onto the region Facebook page, and keep an eye out for our email updates in your inbox. As you may be aware, the government has imposed temporary restrictions on class sizes which will require us to monitor student numbers for the foreseeable future. To comply with this requirement, we will aim to open a few extra classes wherever possible to help spread normal class attendees over more timeslots. Due to these requirements, we will also be introducing a Booking System.

Booking System
For the time being, it will be necessary to pre-book your place at each class you wish to attend. Simply click on the Make a Booking button at the bottom of each timetable and you will be taken to a booking page. Once there, look for your desired day and time, and then follow the prompts to book your spot. Please note that the booking page will also indicate if the class you are aiming to attend is already fully booked.

Please be assured that this booking system will only be a temporary measure, and we thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation. All going well, we’ll be back to an unrestricted full timetable of classes very soon.

Direct Debit: Accounts have been in suspension since mid-July and will be re-activated as/when student’s regular classes re-open.  All students will receive an email and text message from the club prior to their direct debit account being reactivated.  Please note that your first payment back may include a small pro-rata adjustment depending on when your account was suspended in relation to your normal payment dates. If this does apply to your account, the change will only be minimal and will not affect your ongoing payments. Please contact us at memberships@gkrkarate.com if you have any queries.

Visit Passes/Term Passes: 12 visit passes have no expiry date so will still be valid, and 3/6 month term passes will be automatically extended in keeping with the duration of our lockdown/closure. Once we have confirmation that your dojo is re-opening, we will post you an updated 3 or 6 month training pass with an adjusted expiry date. Please email us at memberships@gkrkarate.com if you have changed address since you last purchased a training pass.

We’re busting to start training again and we encourage everyone to dust off their gi and come back down to see us again at our new venue as soon as possible. We know that Christmas is not far away, but we’ve decided this year to run a reduced class timetable on most of the non-public holidays during our normal 2 week Christmas break. This means that students can start back now and maintain continuity with their training right throughout the December/January school holiday period. We’ll provide more details about these extra classes closer to the date.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
