Did you know that…

• Children who train in karate are much less likely to be bullied – or become bullies – as they develop greater self-confidence and respect for others

• Children’s work and classroom behaviour can be greatly improved through karate’s disciplined and respectful training environment

• There are over 600 muscles in the human body and you will use every one of them during an average karate class

• An adult student can burn over 1000 calories in a typical one hour karate class with many reporting significant weight loss during the first 6 months

• Karate kicking engages all muscle groups in the upper and lower abdominal areas and strengthens the lower back

• Enhanced flexibility from karate training can greatly increase posture and vitality… and can assist in the prevention of many age-onset injuries

• Accomplishments in karate are often seen in a positive light by prospective employers who rightly attach images of strength, trust and good character to those who study it.

GKR KARATE PRIME

GKR Karate has been established since 1984 and has thousands of members across Australia, New Zealand and the UK. GKR Karate Prime is an exciting new concept that aims to accelerate the learning process by offering the opportunity for students to train as often as they wish each week with a 7 day timetable and a wide range of class times.

One training pass gives you access to 20 different sessions, giving students and parents flexibility of times, and easy access to nearby classes. We also run classes right throughout all school holidays, allowing students to maintain consistency with their training and giving them extra activities to pursue during school breaks.

GKR Karate PRIME classes will be opening in early February 2018. If you’re a beginner, you’ll be starting with a whole bunch of other people just like you so NOW is the best time to take that first step!

Welcome to GKR Karate Prime

GKR Karate (Go-Kan-Ryu) brings the exciting Martial Art of karate within reach of everyone. Our classes are taught in a structured and disciplined fashion, but maintain a positive environment of encouragement and fun for all students. We cater for children 5 yrs+, teens, adults and families.

Whilst karate is a highly effective form of self-defence, our teachings also emphasise the important concepts of restraint and non-violence to all participants. Karate training builds confidence, develops self-discipline, improves fitness and places high value on personal character, respect and courtesy.

Our club has been established for over 30 years and developed thousands of highly skilled black belt students and tournament champions. GKR Karate Prime offers both children’s and adults classes 7 days a week, with many of these classes suitable for families to train together.

We believe that everybody should learn some form of self-defence these days. Our goal is to empower students with a greater sense of inner strength and personal safety, while promoting a positive mental attitude and good character.

Our online community is vast and highly supportive of all members. We encourage you to visit us on Facebook to further see what we’re all about! We hope to see you soon.

Frequently Asked Questions

1What qualifications do instructors hold?
GKR Karate Instructors are accredited via the IGKF (International Go Kan Ryu Karate Federation), are Working With Children Checked and First Aid qualified. Many have been training with GKR Karate for several years and are experienced with all ages and abilities.
2What age do you begin training?
We accept students from aged 5 years.
3I've had no experience/am unfit - can I still train?
There is no fitness prerequisite for training. You can train at your own pace and will see improvement over the first few sessions. As Karate works both body and mind it is by its nature open to all ages and abilities.
4What can I expect at my first class? What should I wear/bring?
As a newcomer to the club you will meet the instructor and learn a little about GKR Karate and its traditional class format. You will be introduced to some of the basic karate techniques and training will intensify as you progress each session. You can wear comfortable clothing to train in. We recommend tracksuit pants/shorts and a T-Shirt (singlets are not permitted). You can purchase a uniform from your class instructor when you are ready.
1Can I bring a friend to train with me?
GKR welcomes all newcomers and wants students to enjoy and feel comfortable as they commence their training. We are happy for you to invite a friend to train with you. If they join there may even be a small gift in it for you. Speak with your local instructor for details.
